Me + my kids

It was time again. Time to shoot my hardest clients- my kids and myself. We shot a few family shots back in the spring but being as chaotic as it was to be both in front and behind the camera, I completely forgot to get shots of the three kids. Plus the fall colors were calling my name.  So it was time to take the kids out for a quick photoshoot.
I'm also currently working on redesigning the look of my website for next year, so I thought now was a good time to get a few shots of me for the "About Ange" section.
For the shots of me, it was really frustrating to know exactly what I wanted, how I wanted it shot, etc, and to try to direct it all from in front of the camera, but my husband was a sport and I think they turned out pretty good.

Pro lab vs. drugstore prints

Today, I want to share the difference in getting your pictures professionally printed by my pro lab vs. a drugstore. I do sell negatives because I understand being on a budget and wanting to be able to make lots of prints at a lower price. HOWEVER when it comes to displaying your pictures on the wall, I wouldn't recommend drugstore prints. You can see from this comparison shared by another photographer that the pro lab smooths out skin tones, keeps the color correct, and the prints I sell have UV protection and textured finish for a really professional look. Drugstores coloring is often off (in many cases, very much so), the contrast is all wrong, and really, it just makes me cringe to see your beautiful pictures be printed so badly.

You know the saying "You get what you pay for"? It's so very true when it comes to photography and printing.

Business portait {round 2}

Tonight Trav and I shot the second business portrait I've been wanting to do for a while (for the "About Ange" section of my website.) This shot was SO FRUSTRATING. I love being the photographer during a session. I hated being the photographer, the model, and also watching to make sure my kids don't kill themselves on the bleachers (although my little boy did his best to try to accomplish this goal) while also having technical difficulties. My lights NEVER give me problems, they always work fantastic, but today, I think because they knew I would not be behind the camera, they all misbehaved. So while I'm trying to give directions to my husband behind the camera, who is great with natural light but knows almost nothing about strobing (that would be my territory), my lights refused to work as they should (which means I'm running around frantically in ridiculous heels that keep falling through the rotting wood in the bleachers), the light disappeared at incredible speeds, and my kids knocked my equipment and themselves over. *Sigh*. So, while this shot isn't all I wanted it to be, it's enough. And with that I will be happy.
That, my friends, is why I remain the photographer, who wears clothes and shoes that I can move around in, and why I remain perfectly happy crawling on the ground. I'm much more comfortable there. I'll leave the modeling to the rest of you! :)

Next time, I find a babysitter. At least then I don't have to worry about cracked heads.

Me {business portrait}

It was time for a new photo of me on the "About Ange" section of my website. The old one was getting pretty dated (over 3 years old if you are counting) and I wanted something this time that felt more "me". Something quirky, creative, and fun. So I put my brain to work and came up with this:

Photobucket
Sometimes I feel like I look like this after photo shoots. Which is also the reason that I always bring a second set of clothes to all the weddings I shoot. Nothing like crawling around on the ground prior to the ceremony to get some good shots and then have to go into a church building covered in grass. :)

Thanks to Ryan and Jacque for letting us use your dirt this evening! The kids had a blast getting covered in dirt while we shot this, and I had a blast scrubbing this mess off myself once we were done (can you sense the sarcasm on that one?).
